We place the needs of children and their families at the heart of everything we do. We want to provide children with the care they need, when they need it, in the most appropriate place – at home, in the community, or in hospital.

Our expert team of doctors, nurses and therapists work with the individual child and family. Every child is different, and we aim to meet the child's physical, emotional, psychological, social and educational needs.

We constantly look at ways to improve the quality and safety of the care we provide - by learning from international research, examining our own practice and listening to feedback from children and their families.

Round-the-clock consultant delivered service

Children come to hospital at all hours, not just Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. We understand how important it is to parents for their sick child to be seen by an expert – whatever time of day it is. At the Royal Free, we provide a 24/7 consultant delivered service. A consultant is on site at the hospital at all times.

Our nurses

All our nurses have specialist paediatric training and we offer excellent career and development opportunities to ensure we retain skilled and experienced staff. The teams in the neonatal unit, community and ward areas are supported by a matron who has a particular focus on quality and safety.

New child friendly surroundings

Our newly-designed and refurbished children’s clinic on the first floor provides a fun, child friendly environment to help put children at ease when they visit the hospital.

Short waiting times

Our services have some of the shortest waiting times locally and nationally so children don’t have to wait long to be seen.

A network of care

Our network of care spans community, secondary and tertiary child health services. We are committed to working in partnership with other organisations to improve the health of local children.
