Out-patient appointment information

self-service check-in kioskPlease make sure to check in for your appointment at one of our self-service check-in kiosks, or with a receptionist - this is important to let the nursing staff know you have arrived. Self-service check-in kiosks are located on the ground floor main entrance, and at our Rowland hill entrance.

Our kiosks are similar to those used at doctor's surgeries and airports. You have the opportunity to update any personal details and will then be directed to the appropriate waiting area where a nurse will call you for your appointment. Staff will be on hand to help guide you through the process and to answer any queries you may have.

The kiosk or receptionist will ask you to confirm your personal details including, name, address, date of birth, General Practitioner (GP) and ethnic origin. The information we record about you is used to ensure that health care professionals have accurate information about you, so that you receive the best care and treatment possible; and to help us plan our services around the needs of our patients.

How can we help?

Appointment reminder service

Our reminder service for out-patients will provide you with a reminder seven days before your appointment, giving you the option to cancel or change.

You will receive an automated message giving the date and time of the appointment with the option to confirm, cancel or change. The service complies with data protection and our partner company is approved by the NHS.

If you do not respond after two automated messages, you will receive a call from a member of staff to check if you still want the appointment. Elderly patients will always receive a phone call rather than an automated message.

To change or cancel an appointment

Online

The preferred way to change or cancel an existing appointment is to use the online form, provided the appointment is two or more working days in the future.

Please DO NOT use this form to change or cancel appointments for maternity, endoscopy, imaging/radiology, gynaecology, paediatrics, day surgery/out-patient procedures, RNTNEH, audiology or mental health or physiotherapy.

Telephone

  • To rearrange an existing appointment contact the out-patient appointment centre 020 7443 9757 open Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm.
  • Monday morning and lunch times are usually the busiest so please avoid telephoning during these times if possible.
  • The out-patient appointment centre cannot provide any information on day surgery procedures, diagnostic/imaging, Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, endoscopy, gynaecology, maternity, paediatrics and mental health as they all have their own contact points, see below.

To check when your appointment has been made

Confirmation of the date and time may take up to two weeks to arrive in the post following a request for an appointment.

If you are concerned that you have not heard please contact your GP or phone the out-patient appointment centre 020 7443 9757 open Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm.


Maternity

If you are pregnant and would like to come to the Royal Free to have your baby, you do not need a referral from your doctor. You can complete a self referral form and post it or fax it to us on 020 7830 2752. Alternatively you can give us your details over the phone in order for an appointment to be processed. Contact the maternity call centre on 020 7794 0500 ext 36169.
