Otolaryngology, head and neck surgery

This service is led by five consultants and has in-patient beds at the Royal Free Hospital. Day surgery is provided at the Royal Free Hospital and Barnet General Hospital. Out-patient clinics are provided at the Royal Free Hospital, Barnet General Hospital, Edgware Community Hospital and Finchley Memorial Hospital.

Medical staff are supported by four specialist registrars, three senior house officers, one pre-registration house officer, clinical assistants and an associated specialist surgeon.

All clinics have access to full audiometric testing and hearing aid provision. Each clinic is equipped with fibre optic endoscopy, microsuction of ears including mastoid cavities and nasal cautery for epistaxis.

Specialist clinics include:

  • voice clinic with stroboscopy at Edgware Hospital.
  • acoustic neuroma clinic at Royal free Hospital (held in conjunction with neurosurgeons and a radiotherapists).
  • paediatric clinic at the Royal Free Hospital.
  • thyroid oncology clinic at Royal Free Hospital.
  • nurse-led clinics at Barnet General Hospital and Edgware Hospital.
  • direct referral clinics for hearing aids at all sites.
