NHS Innovations London (NHSIL)

The NHS is the 3rd largest organization in the world, and as a constantly evolving service with science and technology at its forefront the NHS is a huge source of innovation.

NHS Innovations London (NHSIL) is part of a national network of NHS Innovation Hubs that are established to provide services to the NHS to help trusts identify, protect and develop their intellectual property (IP).

If you are a researcher, nurse or clinician working in the NHS, we can help you make the most of your invention. You can work with us to take your product to market, as we have the expertise and resources to assist and advise you in product development, market research, finding commercial partners and negotiating contracts and forming start up companies.

The trust retains full ownership of the IP and depending on your Trust’s policy, you will receive a percentage of any royalty payments. The Trust would also benefit by gaining recognition as an innovative organization and you as an innovative professional.

Capturing innovation not only benefits healthcare but can result in financial return to the trust which can then be ploughed back into healthcare provision.

Overall the purpose and function of NHSIL is:
  • To build awareness of IP in the trusts
  • To find and evaluate IP for the trusts
  • To protect and manage IP for the trusts
  • To assist and facilitate technology development
  • To commercialize technology and products
  • To disseminate service improvements
