HIV services: How do I book a new patient appointment?

If you have tested HIV-positive in our HIV testing clinic, this appointment will have been made for you and you will have had the necessary new patient baseline blood tests. Most of these results will be ready when you return for your clinic appointment. If you need to change this appointment please call the administration team on 020 7830 2051. Alternatively you can call the main switchboard on 020 7794 0500 and key in extension x34694 or x38735 or x38735.

If you have tested at another facility or you want to transfer from another HIV treatment centre, please call 020 7830 2051 to make a new patient appointment. Alternatively you can call the main switchboard on 020 7794 0500 and key in extension x34694 or x38735 or x38735.

At your new patient appointment, you will be seen by one of our senior HIV doctors who will take a full medical history, request appropriate blood tests and any other investigations, and arrange any follow-up appointments.

Baseline blood tests usually include:

  • HIV confirmatory test
  • HIV viral load
  • Full blood count
  • CD4 count
  • Routine biochemistry (liver & kidney function and lipids)
  • Infection screens for Hepatitis A, B, and C and syphilis
  • HIV resistance test

If you have transferred from another treatment centre it is beneficial if we can contact them for your previous history. In order to do this we will need your written consent to release information and contact details of your previous treatment centre. Alternatively, if you have this information you could forward it to the administration team in the Ian Charleson centre.
