Neurosciences

Neurological conditions, both acute and progressive, can impact negatively on nutritional status. Many patients experience malnutrition and dysphagia (swallowing problems) requiring modified texture diets and/or supplementary/complete feeding via a feeding tube.

A specialist dietetic service is provided for stroke, neurology and neurosurgical in-patients at the Royal Free Hospital and patients at the neuro-rehabilitation/neuro-disability management service at the Neurological Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at Edgware Community Hospital. We are involved in both the in-patient and community services provided at the NRC. The focus of this service is neurological rehabilitation and neurological condition management. More about the Neurological Rehabilitation Centre >>.

Facilitation of safe patient discharge on tube feeding is a key role of the clinical specialist dietitian for neurosciences.
