Emergency department clinical quality indicators
Find out how we are doing in our emergency departments. More information on how we choose our indicators can be found by clicking on the link on the right hand side.
Time spent in the emergency department
Barnet Hospital
The clinical indicator for time spent in the emergency department is the average length of time patients spend in our department, including:
- those admitted to an in-patient ward
- those that are discharged direct from the A&E
Rationale
Shorter time spent in emergency department is associated with better health outcomes and patient experience, as well as fewer transport delays, treatment delays, ambulance diversions, patients leaving without being seen, and financial inefficiencies.
Our objectives
We aim to achieve the Department of Health's standard of 95% of patients spending no more than 240 mins in A&E, without compromising care.
A small number of patients require longer than this for optimal care.
