A group of colleagues from the Royal Free Hospital’s cardiology team will be running the London Marathon on Sunday.

The five include two cardiology research nurses, Angelique Smit and Jacolene Crause, two cardiology registrars, Tushar Kotecha and Hossam Fayed and cardiology consultant, Dan Knight.

The group started running together in memory of a colleague. They took part in their first half marathon last year and were inspired to take up the challenge of the London Marathon.

The group are raising money for the charity Whizz-Kidz.

Angelique Smit said: “We decided to support Whizz-Kidz because we love the amazing work they do every day. They transform the lives of disabled children by providing the equipment, support and life skills they need, when they need them – giving them the chance to develop their full potential.

“We’ve trained together and inspired and motivated each other – especially through the horrible winter we have had. We hope that lots of our colleagues will come out and cheer for us on Sunday.”
