Today, 5 May, is International Day of the Midwife and we’d like to pay special tribute and say a very big thank you to all midwives working across the Royal Free London.

The theme of the day, which is being marked in maternity units and through virtual events across the globe, is '100 years of progress'.

Over the past two years, midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers have gone above and beyond in extraordinary circumstances to provide the best possible care to women and their families.

Julie Hamilton, group chief nurse shares her thanks: “I am so proud of our maternity teams across the Royal Free London. Thank you to all of you for your compassion, dedication and commitment. Everyday the work you do makes a difference to families in our communities. I’m looking forward to visiting teams over the next week, along with senior leadership colleagues, to say thank you in person.”

Activities are taking place locally across our hospitals, which have been funded by the Royal Free Charity thanks to the generosity of supporters. Celebrations continue next week with International Nurses Day.
