60 seconds with Patrick McVey

29 March 2016

Patrick McVeyPatrick is a logistical controller at Tottenham Hale dialysis centre.

What’s your greatest personal/career achievement?

I have been in logistics and warehouse management for over 25 years. My greatest personal achievement is having the honour of working in the NHS and playing a part in helping to heal people.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best part of this job is dealing directly with patients, their families and clinicians. It gives me a “hands on” feeling in regards to care.

How long have you worked at Tottenham Hale?

I have been here since April 2014.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of a career in logistics?

Be prepared to work hard and get dirty. It is a great career full of constant changes and challenges. I am never bored.

What was your first job?

I worked at a taco stand in Southern California.

What did you want to be as a child?

I wanted to teach American history.

What would be your perfect day away from work?

Spending time with my family. Travelling the London canals on my narrow boat.

If you weren’t in your current role, what would you be doing?

I would probably be a chef.

What can’t you live without?

Barbeques and American football.

If you could time travel, where would you go?

I think that I would go to the fall of the Berlin wall. I love the idea of so many people becoming free at such a quick moment in time. I think that it was the biggest event in the second half of the 20th century.
