Bimbi Fernando was appointed as liver and kidney transplant consultant surgeon in 2004 and was elected governor representing staff in October 2019. He has a very long affection for and affiliation with the Royal Free Hospital dating back nearly 50 years initially as a family member (son of a transplant surgeon) then as a medical student, a junior doctor, a postgraduate research student and as a patient on occasions. He is passionate about training and education, looking after the staff that deliver care to our patients ensuring that they are treated fairly and ensuring that our patients get the best possible care.
He has used his leadership roles to date to support this and hopes that he can continue to do so in the governor role:
- simulation lead for the Trust
- undergraduate module lead for UCL
- previous divisional director of education
- previous chair of the consultant staff committee
