Biography
Ms Eleni Mavrides has been working as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Royal Free Hospital, specialising in advanced minimally invasive gynaecological surgery for over eight years. She also practices general obstetrics and covers all types of deliveries. Ms Mavrides' role covers major and minor surgery, the labour ward, antenatal clinic and a busy gynaecology clinic. She deals with general gynaecology including emergencies, transvaginal scanning of early pregnancy. She has special interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, gynaecological ultrasound, pelvic pain, laparoscopic hysterectomies, fibroids and abnormal bleeding.
She trained as an undergraduate at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals Medical School, London, qualifying in 1997. She completed her training in the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology at St George’s Hospital Medical school and Queen Charlotte's and Hammersmith Hospitals, gaining widespread experience in all aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology including obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound.
During the period of 1999-2001, she completed two years in research in obstetric ultrasound at St George's Hospital University and in 2004 she holds a doctorate of medicine of the University of London and she gained the advanced diploma in obstetric ultrasound for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).She achieved multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals.
She completed a fellowship in minimal access surgery (keyhole surgery) at St Mary’s, Watford General and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals with extensive surgical experience in oncology, infertility, menstrual disorders and fibroids.
She is an examiner of the University of London for the MBBS degree. She is actively involved in the training of obstetricians and gynaecologists at all levels. She runs regular workshops in laparoscopic surgery and basic surgical skills.
She is a member of the RCOG, Royal Society of Medicine, British society of Gynaecological Endoscopists and European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopists.
