What to expect when you are referred to the Royal Free London
We are improving the way referrals are processed at Royal Free London to ensure patients receive the best care possible. If you have been referred by your GP or another healthcare professional to one of our specialist services, the referral will first be reviewed (triaged) by one of our clinicians before deciding on the best next step for you.
We are currently experiencing an issue whereby telephone appointments letters are being sent for triage appointments. Please ignore these letters and do not attend these appointments. Our administrators will contact you with the next steps when a consultant has reviewed your referral.
A referral from your GP will not automatically lead to an appointment at one of our hospitals, and one of the following next steps will take place:
- You will receive an outpatient appointment at one of our hospitals
- You will receive an appointment for a test or an investigation before your first outpatient appointment, for example a blood test or scan
- You and your GP will receive a letter explaining how best to manage your symptoms. One of our clinicians has reviewed your symptoms and does not think you need to attend an outpatient appointment.
These changes will help ensure you receive the care you need as soon as possible.
