Nursing and midwifery safe staffing

As part of the NHS response to the Francis report, which called for greater openness and transparency in the health service, all hospitals are required to publish information about the number of nursing and midwifery staff working on each ward, together with the percentage of shifts meeting safe staffing guidelines.

Planned versus actual nursing and midwifery staffing levels is published every month. We also display information for patients and visitors on all of our wards showing the planned and actual staffing available at the start of every shift.

In addition, every six months trust boards are required to undertake a detailed review of staffing using evidence based tools. Please see below for our recent planned versus actual staffing reports and our six monthly review reports.

Please note that on 1 July 2014 Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital became part of the Royal Free London and as such the data prior to July 2014 is reported separately.
