How we protect your privacy and dignity

An excellent patient experience: our commitment to your privacy and dignity

At Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust we know that every hospital patient expects the best possible medical treatment. Across our three hospitals – Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital – we are committed to providing the best possible healthcare, with an excellent patient experience. We also know that quality healthcare isn't enough on its own. Every hospital patient has the right to deal with polite and helpful hospital staff who are conscious of your need for privacy and dignity.

Training for our hospital staff: how we reinforce the best patient experience

All new Royal Free hospital staff, at each of the hospitals in our trust, takes part in a programme which explains how to treat the patients in our care. We reinforce this with in-house training, as well as external ‘privacy and dignity in nursing’ courses and support to ensure our hospital staff have opportunities to learn from colleagues across the NHS, and outside it.

Watch our video: how a hospital patient sees hospital staff

These principles are outlined in "How others see us", a five-minute video narrated by Fawlty Towers’ star Andrew Sachs. You can watch the video on this page. Shot from the point of view of someone visiting a hospital clinic, the video shows hospital staff how to avoid some of the most common causes of patient complaints.

We would love to have your feedback on the video: Do you think it covered issues that are important to hospital patients? Were there others you would have like to have seen included? Is there anything else you would like to say about it? Please email your thoughts to: rf.mediaenquiries@nhs.net
