A new home for Maggie’s Royal Free

Construction works for a new purpose-built Maggie’s centre in the grounds of the Royal Free Hospital began in October 2021. The Royal Free London has been working closely with Maggie’s on this exciting project and the centre, designed by world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, is due to be completed by summer 2023.

Maggie’s creates unique spaces for delivering professional integrated support, combining exceptional building design with an evidence-based programme that helps people deal with the psychological, practical, social and financial impacts of a cancer diagnosis.

Maggie’s Royal Free has been thoughtfully designed to be calming and welcoming. It will have large open spaces for group activities, a kitchen table to chat to other people and plenty of peaceful corners for quiet moments and a chance to gather your thoughts.

It will also be nestled into a planted garden to the rear and extend at the front to provide quiet seating as well as connecting to existing walkways on the hospital campus. An additional garden will be at roof level to create a serene enclosure for visitors, a peaceful outdoor retreat that aligns with the canopies of the surrounding foliage.
