Biography

Mr Soares is a consultant laparoscopic surgeon, and he is the lead for gallbladder surgery at Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital.

He qualified in 1992 after studying medicine at Porto University Medical School. He has trained extensively in laparoscopic surgery since 1995, having undertaken his training in Portugal (Porto and Lisbon), France (Strasbourg), Spain (Barcelona) and USA (Seattle).

Mr Soares' broad training and international fellowships in laparoscopic surgery have enabled him to develop special interests within the broad field of laparoscopic surgery. His specialist interests include laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, plus all different kinds of laparoscopic abdominal wall hernia repairs and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Prior to his appointment at the Royal Free London, he worked for 20 years as a colorectal and emergency surgeon in Porto at the Centro Hospital do Porto.
