Biography

Mr Varcada completed high surgical training in general and colorectal surgery at the Royal Free Hospital, and in 2009 passed the FRCS Eng. and was awarded the European Board Qualification examination in coloproctology (FEBSQ).

He was appointed consultant surgeon and senior lecturer at University College London (UCL) in 2011 and his primary interests are emergency and colorectal surgery.

Mr Varcada is honorary associate professor in general and colorectal surgery at UCL Medical School and is actively supervising clinical research as part of his responsibilities. He is primary investigator for clinical trials at the medical school and also a National Institute for Health Research reviewer.

He has expertise in upper-lower GI endoscopy, pelvic floor surgery and endoscopic transrectal ultrasound.

Mr Varcada's research interests include improving outcomes in general surgery, neuroendocrine tumours, faecal incontinence and neuromodulation, and simulation training.
