Biography

Prof Cunningham holds positions as professor of nephrology at University College London Medical School, consultant nephrologist at the Royal Free Hospital and an honorary fellowship at Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge. His training has been in Cambridge, Oxford, London and the USA.

He is a clinician (general nephrology, dialysis, transplantation, hypertension, metabolic bone disease) and researcher (disordered bone and mineral metabolism) in patients with kidney disease (osteoporosis, parathyroid diseases, vitamin D-related problems) and also on cardiovascular diseases as seen in people with kidney disease.

He is a point of national/international referral for renal bone disease, bone and mineral metabolism in patients with kidney disease.

Prof Cunningham serves on various grant-giving bodies and charities and is founding co-chairman of the ‘Cardiology, Diabetes and Nephrology At The Limits’ series held under the auspices of UCL, the University of Cape Town, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston and The Lancet.
