Breast screening

Overview

Breast screening during COVID-19 pandemic

Please note that breast screening appointments are deemed as essential activity and therefore exempt from restrictions on movements imposed in tier four areas.

Breast screening is important in preventing and detecting breast cancer. It offers a significant opportunity for early detection which increases the chances of recovery and reduces the need for aggressive treatments like chemotherapy.

Breast screening units across London have put much in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19 to keep you safe. Access to screening services is also easier as you can have your appointment on days and times of your own choosing.

North London Breast Screening Service

The North London Breast Screening Service (NLBSS) is part of the National Breast Screening Programme and is one of the largest breast screening services in England. NLBSS provides a free breast screening service for women aged between 50 and 70, resident within Barnet, Brent, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow and West Hertfordshire. We aim to provide and promote an efficient and effective, high quality breast screening service, to all eligible women within a caring environment. Breast screening using full field digital mammography aims to find breast cancer at an early stage, often before there are any symptoms. Early detection may often mean simpler and more successful treatment.  Breast screening takes place at Edgware Hospital and the Forest Road static site, as well as at further multiple sites using five breast screening mobile units. The service is hosted on the Edgware Community hospitals site where assessment clinics also takes place.
