Diabetes: Camden IPU

Overview

The Camden diabetes IPU (integrated practice unit) is a multi-trust partnership set up to meet the needs of people with diabetes in Camden by taking a different approach to diabetes care.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is the lead provider, working in partnership with Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Haverstock Healthcare.

Diabetes specialists from across these organisations got together to ask people with diabetes to decide the priorities of a diabetes service.

Our philosophy is to put people with diabetes at the centre of their care with teams across primary, community and hospital settings working together to ensure patients are seen at the right time, in the right place, by healthcare teams equipped with the appropriate skillset.

Our goals and objectives are:

  • improved safety and quality of patient care
  • partnership working
  • equity of access to services
