The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust tissue viability department
The tissue viability department provides a specialist nursing service across the trust, facilitating expert wound assessment and management, advice and support for both staff and patients in regards to all aspects of complex wound prevention, assessment and healing. Our areas of expertise include:
• Chronic wound care
• Leg ulceration and pressure ulceration
• Acute and traumatic wounds
• Surgical wound care
• Palliative wound care
• Chronic oedema
• Lymphoedema
We work closely with our medical and surgical teams and other departments, including the surgical appliances department, plastic nurse specialists, and the dermatology, diabetes, and vascular teams, as well as community tissue viability and district and general practitioner services.
We pride ourselves on providing up-to-date evidence-based wound care education and we aspire to be world class leaders in relation to complex wound management and treatment.
The trust has a zero tolerance policy on all avoidable pressure damage and we assist with this by providing in-house training for all staff. We also work with frontline staff to provide hands-on training and education.
