Most of us have felt lonely at some point in our lives. Whilst everyone’s experience of loneliness will be different, it’s commonly described as the absence of social contact and relationships that we find rewarding or meaningful. This Mental Health Awareness Week, there have been a number of opportunities for staff to connect with others, learn about mental health, and build connections with others across the Royal Free London. Here's a snapshot of how we marked the week.

Our trust art therapist, Jacqueline Kottler, ran a drop-in art therapy session

Staff who joined the session were asked to select an intention that they wrote on paper and then wrapped around the branch and used an assortment of materials such as yarn to wrap the branch - promoting relaxation. Then they embellish the branches with felt flowers and fabric, ending with them all bringing their sticks together into one vase, as one community.

A team of mental health first aiders visited the restaurant spaces at Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, and the Royal Free Hospital

Led by Carol Menashy, they displayed support materials and started conversations about how we can improve our mental health. Here are staff visiting the stand at Chase Farm Hospital:
