19 September 2023
We are delighted to invite you to our next Medicine for Members’ event on Thursday 28 September at 6.15pm, where you will hear from members of our leading liver transplant team about the life-changing work they do.
The Royal Free Hospital is one of seven specialist liver transplant units in the UK. The team receives referrals and perform transplants for patients across the country. Since starting in 1988, our clinicians have performed over 2,000 liver transplants.
Transplantation is a clinical priority for the Royal Free London and this event will showcase the incredible work being done to help give patients with end stage liver disease a new lease of life. We recently performed the first live liver transplant in five years at the Royal Free Hospital and this will be an opportunity to hear about that patient’s journey.
You will hear from the following specialist clinicians:
- Professor Douglas Thorburn, consultant hepatologist and divisional clinical director for the liver and digestive health division
- Dr Aileen Marshall, consultant hepatologist and clinical service line lead for hepatology and transplant hepatology
- Professor Joerg-Matthias Pollok, hepato-pancreato-biliary (HBP) and liver transplant consultant surgeon and clinical lead for HPB surgery and liver transplantation
Our Medicine for Members’ events are hosted by our governors and focus on topics which are important to patients, staff and the local community. This event will be streamed online using Microsoft Teams Live.
There will be an interactive Q&A session during the event. To submit a question or to book a place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on Wednesday 27 September. You can also submit questions live on the day.
