Bereavement midwives Julie Stewart and Gemma Gluckman have been recognised at the prestigious Mariposa Awards for the exemplary care they deliver at Barnet Hospital (BH) and Royal Free Hospital.

The annual awards ceremony celebrates healthcare workers and community workers who have gone above and beyond in the care and support that they provide for people who have experienced baby loss.

Both Julie and Gemma were shortlisted for awards, and out of hundreds of nominations, Julie was presented the special recognition award [pictured below] by actor and presenter Kym Marsh for her outstanding contributions as a bereavement midwife at BH.

Speaking about her win, Julie commented: “It was such a special evening to be part of and we were very humbled to be there. The bereaved families at the ceremony showed such strength in sharing their tragic experiences with us and The Mariposa Trust does amazing work to help and support them. We were also able to speak to colleagues from other trusts who are so inspiring in what they do.

“I’d also like to extend my gratitude to my colleagues at Barnet Hospital maternity department for their vital encouragement and support to ensure we continue to provide the high quality care our patients deserve.”

Now in their fifth year, the awards are run by baby loss charity The Mariposa Trust which provides free support to people affected by baby loss, pregnancy after baby loss, fertility, adoption and more.

This year’s awards were hosted by Kym Marsh with a host of celebrity supporters and ambassadors presenting the awards, including Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE, chief midwifery officer for England, Rio and Kate Ferdinand, ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Louise Thompson, ‘This Morning’ Doctor Larisa Corda and James Green, Sky Sports reporter.
