Biography

Dr Michael Beckles is an experienced respiratory physician. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Manchester Medical School. He completed his postgraduate training in the teaching and district general hospitals in Manchester and London.

Prior to being appointed consultant physician at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust in 2001, he worked at the North-West Lung Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital, and other prestigious respiratory units in the north-west and in and around London, where he obtained training in all of the subspecialties of respiratory medicine.

He has held clinical leadership positions in acute medicine, lung cancer, bronchoscopy, and clinical governance. He is also the Royal College tutor. He has an active interest in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

He has contributed to national and international guidelines on the management of lung cancer and has co-chaired lung cancer multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment meetings. In 2013, he was named as one of the top respiratory physicians in the United Kingdom. He is also a renowned expert witness in asbestos related lung disease.

Michael runs a general respiratory clinic on a Tuesday morning and participates in the two-week wait clinic on a Wednesday morning. He set the latter clinic up when he was clinical lead for lung cancer.

He is happy to provide educational talks to GP surgeries.
