How are NETs diagnosed?
Your consultant will undertake a combination of diagnostic tests including blood tests, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans to determine whether your health problems may be related to a NET.
In addition to standard tests, special blood tests are undertaken that look at various gut hormones. Nuclear medicine tests such as the octreotide scan or the gallium-68 octreotate PET scan may also be undertaken to locate possible tumours and help plan future treatment options.
This flow chart shows the different tests you may have to diagnose a NET. For a full glossary of the terms used, see our NET glossary.
