Referral triage services
We are improving the way referrals are processed at Royal Free London to ensure patients receive the best care possible.
If you have been referred by your GP or another healthcare professional to one of our specialist services (listed below), you will be booked into an initial triage appointment. You do not need to attend this appointment and please ignore any letters you receive about the triage appointment.
Once your referral has been reviewed by a clinician, one of the following next steps will take place:
- You will receive an outpatient appointment at one of our hospitals
- You will receive an appointment for a test or an investigation before your first outpatient appoinmtent, for example a blood test or scan
- You and your GP will receive a letter explaining how best to manage your symptoms. One of our clinicians has reviewed your symptoms and does not think you need to attend an outpatient appointment
A referral from your GP will not automatically lead to an appointment at one of our hospitals. These changes will help ensure you receive the care you need as soon as possible.
