Travel writer and broadcaster Simon Calder officially opened the Royal Free London Travel Health and Immunisation Clinic last Thursday.
The clinic, which is run by the Royal Free London Private Patients Unit, provides travel health advice, vaccinations, malaria tablets and treatment kits as well as a comprehensive range of travel health products for those travelling abroad. The clinic also provides a service for more general immunisations such as meningitis.
Simon said: “We are living in an incredible time for travel – for one week’s work paid at the national living wage you can buy a flight to Bangkok.
“I would recommend coming to this travel clinic to get proper professional health advice before travelling - it’s really important that this clinic is accessible to all. It’s my privilege and pleasure to celebrate the official opening of the travel clinic with you.”
The clinic offers private consultations led by Dr Jane Zuckerman, consultant in travel medicine and immunisations, who provides a specialist service for patients and travellers. Patients can also book appointments to see a specialist nurse and have any appropriate vaccinations and malaria tablets.
With many years of experience in travel medicine and immunisations, Dr Jane Zuckerman, a nationally and internationally renowned consultant, cares for the travel health needs of more than 10,000 travellers every year and has many areas of expertise, in particular caring for travellers with complex health problems.
Dr Zuckerman said: “I am very proud of the travel clinic. We provide this service because I want to make a difference to people – to protect the health of travellers and at the same time protecting public health.
“This is a hospital based travel and immunisation clinic which will provide travellers of all ages with a range of services – including advice on altitude sickness, the Zika virus and other emerging viruses, what vaccinations and malaria tablets you will need for different parts of the world and much more.”
