On Saturday 10 May the HAS road entrance to the Heart Attack Centre at the Royal Free Hospital (as pictured below) will be temporarily closed to allow access for a crane lift as part of the pre-construction works for the new vascular theatres.

Enabling works areas are marked in purple.

Parking at the hospital’s main entrance in Pond Street will be unaffected (ambulance bays, radiotherapy parking\disabled bays and drop off zone). A temporary pedestrian route will be in place, redirecting visitors via the main entrance to the hospital to the Heart Attack Centre and radiotherapy via the main entrance to the hospital.

If you are visiting for the Royal Free Charity abseil, the charity’s marshals will direct you to the event viewing area.

Affected areas:

  • There will be no access to the Pears Building car park, at ground level, from the Pond Street entrance to new entrants from 8pm on Friday 9 May (visitors already on site will be able to leave the car park until 9pm) and Saturday 10 May. Our parking teams will be on site to manage the flow of traffic.
  • Pedestrian access to the Heart Attack Centre and radiotherapy. Visitors should use the main entrance to the hospital to get to these departments.
  • The ambulance drop-off at the Heart Attack Centre will be closed. Ambulances will be diverted to the emergency department entrance instead.

Please note, due to a revised plan from our contractors, the HAS road will not be accessible for future crane lift operations during these pre-construction works. This is an update to our previous communication in March 2025. There will be two further one-day closure dates of the HAS road planned for Saturdays in June. Notice will be given beforehand.
