Overview

Cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Royal Free London

Oncology is the branch of medicine dedicated to cancer diagnosis and treatment. At the Royal Free London, we refer to these services as cancer services. Cancer services deal with identifying different the cancer types a person may have and the therapy or cancer treatments patients require, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

The oncology and cancer treatment services at Barnet Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital work in partnership with our neighbouring radiotherapy and oncology centres to provide the very best treatments and technologies to care for cancer patients.

At the Royal Free London we are continually looking at how we can improve the medical treatment and healthcare of cancer patients, and make best use of the medical staff and cancer treatment facilities we have.

Cancer care is provided by a multidisciplinary team that includes oncologists, other doctors, nurses, clinical nurse specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, and administrative staff.

Your cancer pathway support guide

The guide is for people who are referred on a suspected cancer pathway or who have been diagnosed with cancer. It provides key questions and signposts to information for people to ask of their health care team. The questions span the whole cancer pathway so patients can use it at any stage they need or come across it. The guide has been designed for use by patients and/or their carers.
