Support services and home care team

Support services

We are able to link your child to the appropriate local community support services if and when it is needed. The diagnosis of a child with cancer is a traumatic event and you will have many questions to ask and decisions to make throughout your child’s treatment. The paediatric oncology shared care unit (POSCU) team at Barnet Hospital will quickly recognise that your child, his/her siblings or you as the parent of a sick child need the expert help of local community support services listed below and offer you a link to that support.

You will be able to discuss your needs with your key worker or any of the POSCU core team who will, via the local referral system, be able to organise referral to the Royal Free London.

Support services include:

  • psychology/psychiatry (patient and family)
  • dietician
  • teaching
  • chaplaincy
  • physiotherapy
  • speech and language therapy
  • occupational therapy
  • social work team
