Heart attack centre and cardiologist knowledge
World class cardiology expertise
The Royal Free Hospital is one of two heart attack centres in north central London, providing 24/7 emergency coronary angioplasty treatment for patients who have a heart attack. A coronary angioplasty is a treatment where a blocked or narrowed artery of the heart is made wider to improve blood flow.
We also provide specialist cardiology services for patients at high risk of developing heart disease, and treatment for patients who have heart disease and are at risk of getting worse.
Royal Free cardiologist knowledge: referrals and research
The Royal Free London also provides a range of “tertiary care” cardiology services (when a patient is referred from another hospital). These services require our specialist cardiologist knowledge and consequently are only available in designated hospitals.
We provide out-patient care at Cheshunt Community Hospital, Edgware Community Hospital and Finchley Memorial Hospital. The trust is also very active with cardiology research and innovation and has a clinical trials office at Barnet Hospital.
