Neuro physiotherapy

Our neuro physiotherapy service for neurological patients helps the rehabilitation of those with physical impairment caused by a neurological condition - such as Bell’s palsy, which leads to facial paralysis. The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust team is made up of sixteen physiotherapists and assistants with broad and specialist neuro physiotherapy experience. The team provides expert assessment, advice, treatment and management of patients with a wide range of physical conditions, such as muscle weakness, muscular dystrophy, movement disorders and respiratory difficulties.

A broad range of specialist neuro physiotherapy treatment may be offered as needed, such as the provision of:

  • posture and positioning advice and management
  • specialist seating, and technology to help movement
  • splinting
  • spasticity management
  • re-education of activities such as sitting, standing and walking.

Where is the Royal Free neuro physiotherapy team based?

Our in-patient and out-patient neuro physiotherapy services are based in the small gym at the Royal Free Hospital, on the lower ground floor. A specialist service is provided to the regional neurosurgery unit, the regional neurology unit, and the regional critical-care and stroke recovery units.
