Gynaecology

Overview

Gynaecology is the medical practice that deals with the health of the female reproductive system, such as the vagina, ovaries and breasts.

Our team of gynaecologists at the Royal Free London diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions that affect only women; from fungal infections, pelvic pain and period problems through to more serious conditions like endometriosis, ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer.

We also treat fertility conditions, menopause and early pregnancy symptoms as well as performing hysterectomy surgery.

Referrals

Referral details

A letter of referral from a GP to the gynaecology consultants is needed in order to get an initial appointment with us, unless being referred from the accident and emergency unit. All GP referrals need to register in the accident and emergency department before attending the emergency gynaecology unit.

Urgent referrals on North London Cancer Network proformas for suspected gynaecological cancers can be faxed to the colposcopy departments at Barnet Hospital: 020 8216 5343 or Chase Farm Hospital: 020 8375 1672.

Electronic referrals from a GP may be made through the choose and book system. Tertiary referrals from other hospital consultants are also available.

Once a referral is made, the patient is asked to call the hospital and to make an appointment at their convenience.
